You Remind Me Of Someone...

Description

It was a cool autumn morning, the sun only just beginning to peek above the crystalline waters of the sea. Papillon smiled at the sparkling water, watching the waves shift from purple to orange to blue, from far away it was really beautiful.

'Maybe one day' She thought to herself, silently wishing the sparkling gem-like water would cease to be so menacing.

A fresh breeze rustled through Papillon's feathers and she stretched out her wings, relishing the feeling of the cold air between her feathers. It was hard to believe just how right flying felt now, only a few months ago it was the most unnatural thing she could have imagined. Sure she had always wanted to fly, more than anything, but when she had first started actually getting into the air, everything had just felt wrong, like she hadn't belonged there. Now though...flying was everything, it was how Pappy spent most her time, when she wasn't reading, of course.

Pappy heard the rustling in the leaves behind her as a little orange wyngling burst through the bushes.

"I'm here and ready!" Inka cried out in delight.

"Morning Inka." Pappy said smiling happily, she was glad the wyngling had come, she was worried she would have backed out considering the last time they had met had been directly after Pappy had crashed.

"IgotyournoteandI'mreadytoflyandcanwestartnow?!?!?!" Inka blurted out, Pappy laughed, it seemed her guest was hardly able to contain her excitement and who could blame her? Flying was one of the most amazing things there was, after all.

"Hop on!" Papillon said, lowering herself down so Inka could scamper on. "Ready?" She asked once the little imp had found herself a comfortable spot.

"YEAH!" She shouted, and with that Papillon broke out into a blinding dash, before launching herself into the air with a few flaps of her powerful wings. It was rather surprising, the extra weight hadn't really been too much of an issue.

'Must be all the practice paying off.' Papillon was drawn away from her thoughts when she heard a slight whimpering behind her. Craning her neck to look at Inka, she found the little imp clinging to her back tightly with her eyes glued shut.

"Inka, it's ok, you can open your eyes now." she said gently.

"I...I can't" she moaned in reply.

"But if you don't you'll miss out. I'm sure you'll really like it up here, if you just look around a bit."

There was a slight pause before Papillon heard her passenger's, quiet reply "Promise?" the little voice asked.

"I promise." She said reassuringly, "If you don't like it we'll go straight back to the beach and do whatever you want."

Papillon waited for a reply, but instead was greeted by the sight of Inka's vibrant pink eyes slowly opening. Inka gasped audibly and looked around her "Wow..." she breathed out.

The rest of the morning's flight went far smoother as Papillon showed Inka her favourite parts of flying. The soared above the jeweled coloured clouds as Inka playfully tried to catch one as a souvenir. Papillon had enjoyed the smile on her little friends face so much, that when Inka had asked if she could fly as close to the water as possible, Pappy had agreed. As they flew Pappy would look back at the excited wyngling, and she found, more than once she was reminded of herself. Sure Inka and her were very different, but in some ways they were the same...

The sun had fully risen by the time the two landed back on the beach and Inka begrudgingly dismounted. Papillon smiled at the wyngling, but her smile quickly faded when she noticed the tears starting to form in the wyngling's eyes "Inka, what's wrong? Didn't you have fun" she asked, laying down in front of the wyngling, worried she had upset her.

"Nothing...it was great, I just...I don't want it to end...." Inka looked at Pappy, her eyes watering more now.

"It has to end for today Inka." Pappy said gently, "But you know I fly on the beach every morning..."

"You do?" Inka asked, hope tinting her voice.

"Sure do! And you know what? It would be great if I could have a friend here to fly with me."

"Umm Pappillon..." Inka asked as she looked down at her claws, twirling the soft beach sand between them.

"Yes Inka?" She asked, giving the orange wyngling her full attention.

"I know I can't fly yet, but until I can, would it be ok if I came down here to fly with you in the mornings?"

Papillon smiled widely, genuinely happy to hear the question "I would love that!"

After saying their goodbyes Pappy watched the little wyngling bounce back through the bushes and off to the nook.

"See you tomorrow!" She yelled as she disappeared into the brush.

"See you then!" Pappy replied and turned to the sparkling blue water, letting out a happy sigh.

Today was turning out to be as wonderful as those dazzling waters were beautiful.

I had fun with this one, been meaning to do something like this for a long time, but first Pappy had learn how to fly properly XD
I hope I got her personality right, I wasn't quite sure what to go off of =P

Oh also Pappy got an upgrade: Tint change, which is almost impossible to see cause of the shading so here's an unshaded version!
